VPSC established its Aboriginal Employment Unit (AEU) in January 2016 to oversee a range of employment and development programs across the Victorian public service.

In June 2016, the AEU commenced development of a whole of  sector employment strategy to replace the previous Kareeta Yirramboi, which ran between 2010 and 2015.

The new 5 year strategy for the Victorian public sector, Barring Djinang was endorsed by the Victorian Secretaries’ Board in mid 2017.
