This paper examines the use of paid sick leave by public sector employees to identify trends in paid sick leave usage over time.

It uses the information from the Victorian Public Sector Commission’s (VPSC) Workforce Data Collection and employee responses to the VPSC’s People Matter Survey to identify where and how sick leave rates have changed over time, and draws conclusions on what factors may be influencing this change.

It seeks to provide Victorian public sector organisations with comparative and background information that will assist them in better understanding their own sick leave rates and usage.
