The 2024 State of the public sector report is now live.

This follows the release of VPS and public sector employee and executive numbers in December 2024.

This year’s report provides insights into the size and composition of the Victorian public sector. It provides details on the types of work our public sector does, where they work, and their experiences of working in our sector.

As Victorian Public Sector Commissioner, Brigid Monagle, shares in her reflections, this years’ report paints a picture of a motivated and committed workforce, proud to serve the community. It also flags to the sector areas where we need to improve or change.

The report includes workforce data and uses People matter survey data for the 12 months to June 2024 to gain insights into the employee experience.

It also includes key performance indicators for the public sector. These KPIs monitor public sector performance, progress and improvement areas for the coming years.

The report includes a series of community and workplace stories to highlight the sector’s invaluable work for Victorians, and some of the ways workplaces have invested in capability, integrity and workforce mobility.
