How we run the survey

We run the survey to support public sector organisations:

  • build positive workplace cultures consistent with the public sector values
  • improve the working environment for their employees.

In 2023, over 115,000 employees from 239 organisations took part in the survey.

Timing and results

In 2024, we’ll run the survey in 2 periods:

  • a 3-week survey period from May to June for all public sector organisations, except health services (expect results in late July)
  • a 3-week survey period in October for all public health organisations (expect results in late November).

Based on these 2 time periods, organisations will get their results either late July or late November.

The Commission intends to release organisation-level results on its website in early 2025.

Participation

All eligible public sector organisations are expected to take part in the 2024 survey.

When more organisations take part, the public sector gets data reports that are more consistent and representative of the public sector workforce. This then supports more accountability across government.

Employees can choose if they want to do the survey or not.

When more employees complete the survey, organisations increase their understanding of their workplace culture, wellbeing and engagement.

What’s different in 2024

The 2024 survey will be similar to the 2023 one, with only a few small changes.

In 2024 we’ll:

  • increase the number of webinars we hold before the start of the survey
  • run a 3-week survey period from May to June for all public sector organisations, except health services
  • run a 3-week survey period in October for all public health organisations.

These changes will help public sector organisations better prepare for the survey and get comparable results earlier.
