As a people manager, you’re always supporting your team to help with their wellbeing.

But how often do you give yourself a little ‘me time’?

We’ve come up with a list of 11 self-care tips you can use to put YOU back in prime position.

By taking the time to give yourself some self-care, you may:

  • avoid burning out
  • better manage your mental health
  • gain better physical health
  • increase your self-esteem
  • reduce stress

These are just tips. Don’t use them as a substitute for proper medical advice.

Aim to have a good work-life balance. Try to structure your day to meet the many demands from life and work.

1. Get enough sleep

While we’re all different, try to get at least 7 to 8 hours of sleep each night.

This may give your body time to rest and renew.

2. Eat well

What you eat can have a major impact on your energy, mood and productivity.

Make sure you’re getting the right nutrition to fuel your body.

3. Exercise regularly

We all dream of exercise but in our busy days, but it can be hard to fit in.

But the positive impacts of exercise on your mood are well known.

Try to schedule in some regular exercise.

You could do this on your lunch break or you could set up ‘walking meetings’ with your team members.

4. Meditate or practise deep breathing

Meditation or deep breathing may help give you a sense of calmness.

Check out our meditation guide.

5. Stretch that body!

Stretching is a great way to take a little break in the day.

Put 5 to 10 minutes aside a few times each day to do it.

6. Start a journal

For some people, writing down all the thoughts in their head is a great way to declutter their brain.

You may like to record things you’re grateful for. Or write about things that worry you.

7. Have a shower or bath

A hot shower or bath can help relax your mind and muscles.

Light some candles, put on some soothing music and zone out to the bliss.

8. Do something uplifting

We’ve all got that thing in our lives that give us joy.

For some, it is connecting with friends or listening to music. For others, it’s experiencing fun with family, cooking or reading an inspiring book.

Whatever your preference, think about what makes you happy and put some time aside to do it.

9. Learn something new

You’ve always wanted to learn piano? German looks great but wow what’s that word? That puzzle is still sitting there from years ago…

Try not to think about work all the time. A hobby or learning something new can let your brain take a break from the stresses of life.

10. De-clutter your surrounds

Does that spark joy in you? If not, then time to give it the boot.

Whether you’re working in the office or remotely, try to remove the clutter around you.

An environment free of mess may help calm your mind.

11. Write, paint or draw

Do something that releases your creativity.

Take some time in the day to write, paint or draw.

Or better yet, do a collaborative drawing activity with your team.
